Attendees explore, define and improve their leadership skills, personal awareness and commitment to their fraternity or sorority. The 2017 attendees were: • Savannah Fraser, Gamma Louisiana State, $8,000 grant benefiting 4theKids Baton Rouge Inc. to provide leadership training experience to high school and college students. • St. Petersburg, Florida, Alumnae Chapter, $5,000 grant benefiting Suncoast Center Inc. to provide clothing for survivors of child abuse and sexual assault. • San Antonio, Texas, Alumnae Chapter, $2,000 grant benefiting ChildSafe to provide art supplies for a music/art therapy room for abused and neglected children. georgia o’keeffe museum internships The Kappa Delta Foundation provided funding for two Kappa Deltas to serve as 2017 summer interns for the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum’s Art and Leadership Program for Girls in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The interns were trained to work with at-risk girls, ages 11-14, providing them with opportunities for independent thinking, skill-building, problem-solving and artistic talent development. The 2017 interns were: • Katherine Bennett, Nu-Oklahoma Omicron-Wayne State • Michelle Kocela, Beta Psi-Arizona State • Stefanie Milovic, Eta Chi-Elon • Christen Snyder, Alpha Phi-confidence u grant recipients Confidence U Grants provide funding for colleges and universities to fund confidence-building programming and awareness initiatives for women on their campuses. Two universities received Confidence U grants, totaling $13,390. The recipients are: • Mississippi State University, “You Westminster • Laura Springer, Pi-Nebraska • Aryanna Thuraisingam, Beta Psi-Arizona State State • Sophia Fishkin, Eta Beta-Bradley kids grant recipients KiDs Grants provide individual alumnae and alumnae chapters the ability to support programs and initiatives of nonprofit organizations that directly affect families and children in their communities. Four KiDs Grants, totaling $25,000, were awarded. The recipients are: • Karin Lorenz Crosby, Epsilon-Go Girl — Women’s Empowerment Week,” a weeklong event that will focus on The Strong Movement, which helps women and girls of all ages build strong bodies and minds through healthy living. • The University of North Florida, “Panhellenic Pride Week,” a weeklong series focused on confidence that will empower the Panhellenic community. x orthopaedic research internships The Kappa Delta Foundation partners with Karen Hasty, Alpha Epsilon-Tennessee/Knoxville, an acclaimed professor of orthopaedic research at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, to offer a first-class summer internship program in Memphis, Tennessee. Interns receive hands-on training in orthopaedic research, summer Louisiana State, $10,000 grant benefiting the Children’s Museum of St. Tammany to support two new program initiatives that focus on the arts and STEM; in addition, these Kappa Delta exhibits will assist children with autism.
