Erin Di Leva BETA RHO-SAN DIEGO STATE "Witnessing the power of our KD sisterhood. . . was by far the most eye-opening, touching and inspiring experience I've had in Kappa Delta." There are many options to give the gift of a scholarship. The foundation offers one-time, spend-down and endowment scholarships. If you or your chapter is interested in fundraising for a scholarship, foundation staff members are available to help. For more information, contact Rachel Shouse at rachel. email@example.com or 901.746.3657. When a significant event occurs within a chapter, the ripple effect is wide. The loss of a sister shakes a sisterhood to its core, impacting everyone from the chapter's collegians and alumnae to sisters in surrounding areas. Beta Rho-San Diego State experienced great loss in 2014 with the passing of sisters Sara Stelzer and Melissa Kennon. The chapter decided to honor the women's legacies with a gift that would benefit sisters for years to come – a Kappa Delta scholarship. Erin Di Leva, former Beta Rho chapter president, shares her firsthand experience helping make the scholarship a reality. When Sara and Melissa became a part of Chapter Eternal in fall 2014, the chapter knew we wanted to honor their legacy. As gifts arrived in their memory, our chapter began to discuss how we could best utilize the contributions. We knew we needed to focus our efforts, so we reached out to the Kappa Delta Foundation to learn more about endowing a scholarship. Endowing a Kappa Delta scholarship meant fundraising a minimum of $30,000. It was a great undertaking, but we knew there was no better way to honor Sara and Melissa than with a scholarship that would impact sisters for future generations. With guidance from the Kappa Delta Foundation, the generous gifts of parents and alumnae from across the country and monthly pledges from chapter members, we reached our goal of $30,000 and have endowed the Sara and Melissa Beta Rho Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship will be awarded to Beta Rho women who possess similar, exceptional qualities to Sara and Melissa. Not only does this scholarship commemorate our sisters, but it will also alleviate some of the financial burden collegians face. Witnessing the power of our KD sisterhood, extending beyond Beta Rho and reaching across the country, was by far the most eye-opening, touching and inspiring experience I've had in Kappa Delta.
