On Oct. 23, Kappa Delta celebrates 120 years of sisterhood –120 years of unwavering principles. Kappa Delta is committed to inspiring each member to lead a values-based life and become a confident woman. The principles upon which our organization was founded are ingrained in everything we do as a sorority. Our founders – Sara, Lenora, Julia and Mary – built Kappa Delta on the principles of our purpose: "The purpose of Kappa Delta Sorority is to promote true friendship among the college girls of our country by inculcating into their hearts and lives those principles of truth, of honor, of duty, without which there can be no true friendship." This message continues to ring true even though the sorority experience of today looks much different from that of our founders – or even those initiated 20 years ago. Each generation has experienced its unique challenges. Today we live in a digitally connected world with sororities experiencing ongoing media scrutiny (including social media) as well as university pressures, risk management concerns, increased government regulations and changes in technology and volunteer availability. These changes to the Greek environment dictate that Kappa Delta be responsive and nimble to ensure the health and longevity of our organization, while staying true to our purpose. That is why Kappa Delta has developed a strategic plan to position us for success into the future. It is essential that Kappa Delta develop a comprehensive plan that ensures the sorority remains relevant and true to our foundational principles in an ever-changing world. It is not surprising that two key areas of focus were identified for our strategic plan: Collegiate Experience and Alumnae Experience. A quality membership experience has always been, and will continue to be, the focus of the sorority along with lifetime learning, altruistic service, personal integrity and truth and loyalty to each other – all basic values and principles of our organization. "Our ideals of honor, truth and beauty must be lived by every member, be present in every chapter activity, or we have betrayed our founding principles. Our destiny lives in our ability to live that which we believe." – FORMER NATIONAL PRESIDENT CORRE ANDING STEGALL, 1985 STATE OF THE SORORITY Let us stay true to our purpose. May each of us live honorably, being a person of our word and doing what is right, regardless of the circumstances or consequences. May each of us live truthfully, by seeking to fully understand and value ourselves and others while aiming to accept responsibility for what we believe and how it influences the way we live. May each of us have duty aiming to be selfless and serve others by using our gifts and talents in a meaningful way. May the mercy of heaven rest upon us and guide us to a greater and better Kappa Delta.
